Selangor Bar Human Rights Sub-Committee held its inaugural Constitutional Law Forum entitle The Rule of Law and Fundamental Liberties in Malaysia on 13 January 2017 at the Raja Tun Uda Library, Shah Alam.

Selangor Bar Human Rights Sub-Committee Chairwoman, Ms Sharon Palani Ammal proposed the Constitutional Law Forum in November 2016 with the objectives of;

1. Free Constitutional Law legal education
2. As a refresher for those who are well-versed in Constitutional Law
3. To inspire attendees to be a Constitutional Patriot.
4. To discuss the past and current cases and precedents that have Constitutional repercussion.
5. To discuss the Constitutionality of some Act of Parliament and future proposed Bills.
6. To understand the aspects of Fundamental Liberties in Malaysia.
7. To instil Tunku Abdul Rahman’s vision of Malaysia as stated in the Proclamation of Independence.

The speakers of the inaugural forum are:
- Fahri Azzat, Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya
- Philip Koh Tong Ngee, Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya
- Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Shad Saleem Faruqi, Professor of Law & UiTM Legal Advisor.

A summary of the Forum contains the following on how it affects the Rule of Law in Malaysia;
• An exegesis and legal analysis of Unilateral Conversion matter in the past and current cases.
• A legal commentary of Constitutional contestation in the Sabah and Sarawak Constitutional Crisis in 1966 and 1986 respectively.
• Legal analysis and commentary of the Federal Constitution in light of cases, proposed bill, local political & economical situation.
• The numerous amendments to our Federal Constitution.

This inaugural forum received very good attendance and response from the participants. It indicates how connected, affected and inspired the participants were. Also, question and answer session was opened to the floor in promoting inclusiveness as depicted in the elements of fundamental liberties. The forum is really an eye-opener for participants who hope the best for this nation.

A heartfelt gratitude goes to Selangor Bar, the Speakers, the attendees and the volunteers who have made our inaugural Constitutional Law Forum come true.
