Report By The Criminal Law Court Liaison & Human Rights Sub-Committee

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear members,

On 15th August 2011, Selangor Bar received a letter of complaint regarding an incident at the Klang Magistrate Court. The complainant claimed that she was cheated and mislead into paying RM36,000 as legal fees to a person she appointed to act for her family member in a murder case. The alleged lawyer is a man who always dresses up as a lawyer (in court attire) whom she had met at the Klang court. Subsequently during the actual court proceedings, the lawyer never showed up in court and never attended any of the court mentioned dates. Subsequently she found out that the man was actually a tout impersonating as a lawyer. This 'bogus lawyer' has been frequently seen at the corridors of Klang , Petaling Jaya, Selayang and Ampang court premises. She had been trying to contact and locate the lawyer but unfortunately he has disappeared and as such she requested the help of Selangor Bar. From our records that man is not an advocate & solicitor.
